This week, our Mozart pieces were:
Overture from The Marriage of Figaro (opera)
An overture is the instrumental music played right before an opera is about to begin. We compared it to the previews at the movie theater. It tells the audience members to find their seats because the show is about to begin.

Jumping into January
Welcome Back!
On February 14th, Arizona Opera is coming to our school to perform scenes from Dvorak's Rusalka. The story is the Czech version of the fairy tale, "The Little Mermaid". In February, we will explore the story of Rusalka and become familiar with key arias such as "Song to the Moon".
In preparation for this opera performance we will be exploring the question "What is opera?"
Our composer for the month of January is Mozart so we will start our opera introduction with The Magic Flute.
Mozart seems to be a favorite among the majority of the students. When I announced him as our composer of the month last week, I was greeted with cheers! I love seeing the student's enthusiasm and love of learning as we forge ahead into this new semester. This week, we have been keeping track of many facts about Mozart and even read the silly story, Play, Mozart, Play.
The pieces we will listen to in class are selections from The Magic Flute, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Rondo alla Turca and Overture from Marriage of Figaro.
All the students are growing in confidence in their solfege singing.
Kindergarten is becoming proficient with Do, Mi, Sol and La.
1st and 2nd Grade are becoming proficient with Do, Re, Mi, Sol, La and low Sol.
At Home Listening:
Here is a link of Rondo alla Turca with the view of the musician's hands and the inside of the piano.
