March News

March has been quite the busy month for us at Archway Lincoln.

On the 1st, the Symphony of the Southwest came to visit and played Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. We had been studying the instrument families and the instruments of the orchestra in preparation for their visit. We learned about the different instruments that represented the characters in the story. By the time the Symphony came to visit us, we were able to match up the instruments and characters as well as place the instruments in their family. Many of the students were able to identify the instruments by sound too!

We talked about what it meant to be a perfect audience for the performance. The students and I came up with a few guidelines to ensure that the Symphony of the Southwest would enjoy playing for us.

Here are a few that we came up with:

  • Voices are off during the performance
  • Stay seated until the end of the performance
  • Keep your eyes on the musicians, the conductor and the narrator
  • Save your snacks for snack time, not concert time.
  • Make sure you wait until the music stops completely to clap
The students did a great job being a perfect audience during the performance. It was a treat to be able to watch the students faces as they recognized the familiar themes from each character.

Field Day was also a great success. I was able to walk around a bit and watch the students. Thanks to all the parent volunteers who make awesome events like that possible!

I hope your spring break was an enjoyable one!
